ENGL 1111
Overview
This course is designed for students with IELTS equivalence of 4.5. The course builds upon the General English and Study Skills work carried out in the Foundation Programme to introduce students to academic modes of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The course is allocated 10 hours per week and it is expected that one class teacher will deliver the 120-hour course to one class of 15-20 students.

ENGL 1222
Overview
This course is designed for students with an IELTS equivalence of 5.0. The course builds upon the academic listening, speaking, reading and writing work commenced in ENGL 1111. The course is allocated 10 hours per week and it is expected that one class teacher will deliver the 120-hour course to one class of 25 students.

The course builds upon the work on academic reading, listening, speaking and writing undertaken in ENGL 1111 and 1222 and aims to develop students’ ability to understand and express relatively complex ideas about academic topics. The course is allocated 8 hours class time per week for a semester of roughly 15 teaching weeks. It is expected that one class teacher will deliver the course to one class of 25 students.

ENGLISH 2222-55
Overview
This course is designed for students with IELTS equivalence of 5.5-6.0. The course builds upon the work on academic reading, listening, speaking and writing undertaken in ENGL 1111, 1222 and 2111 and aims to develop students’ ability to understand and express relatively complex ideas about academic topics. It also aims to provide exposure to subject-specific genres and lexis. The course is allocated 8 hours class time per week for a semester of roughly 15 teaching weeks. It is expected that one class teacher will deliver the course to one class of 25 students.
